This would be an opportunity to test theories and strategies on Risk Assessments and Recidivism. The mandated release would allow tracking those released to see how the released prisoners would compare to previous prisoners whose release was denied or who were given parole or were released for treatment.

Kahler v. Kansas – SCOTUSblog

Kahler is a case from Kansas where the question is raised if abolishing the “Insanity Defense” is unconditional and a violation of the 8th Amendment. What is fascinating is the Amici (Amicus) Curiae briefs. These briefs help to further define the issues surrounding the Insanity Defense. I pursued the History/Sociology brief and found it interesting.

MADISON POLICE DEPARTMENT Current Status & Plan for 21st Century Policing

In 2015, the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing report was released, offering a series of recommendations related to modern policing. The Madison Police Department released a response in early 2016, outlining the department’s status and future plans relating to the report’s recommendations. The Task Force Report continues to provide valuable guidance to policing and the larger criminal justice system; this report reflects an update on MPD’s efforts.

This report containing an analysis of law enforcement operations in The Woodlands Township, along with cost estimates regarding various options for developing an in-house law enforcement function should the Township incorporate. The analysis included in this report was developed utilizing a variety of sources, including interviews with The Woodlands staff and stakeholders, information provided by Montgomery and Harris Counties, and publicly-available information from benchmark communities.
