Policing and artificial intelligence – The Police Foundation

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform the work of the police. This report looks at how AI is currently being used by UK policing and explores some of the ways it might be used in the future.

The report, produced in partnership with Forensic Analytics Ltd, identifies eight challenges for the more widespread use of AI for policing purposes. It makes a number of recommendations for policymakers and police leaders intended to help policing make the most of the AI revolution, while maintaining public trust and confidence and protecting rights and freedoms.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno urges DOJ to review police consent decrees in Cleveland and other cities – cleveland.com

WASHINGTON, D. C. – U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno wants the U.S. Department of Justice to re-examine consent decrees that it has reached over the years to reform police practices in Cleveland and other cities.

The freshman Westlake Republican is sending a letter to newly confirmed Attorney General Pam Bondi that seeks her views on voluntarily dismissing consent decrees with state and local governments, citing a U.S. Supreme Court precedent on enforcement of consent decrees.

Trump Reverses Biden Directive on Policing Reforms | Brennan Center for Justice

After the Senate failed in 2021 to pass a bipartisan package of law enforcement reforms — the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act — the Biden administration sought to implement as much of the legislation as possible through executive order. Signed May 2022 on the second anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, the action aimed “to promote safe and accountable policing” in myriad ways.

KUOW – Seattle Community Police Commission seeks to regroup from internal turmoil, influence crowd control ordinance

Seattle’s Community Police Commission was created to amplify the voices of communities affected by policing and weigh in on police reform. But internal conflicts, vacancies, and turnover have frustrated that mission in recent years, according to an outside review.

Now members say they’re trying to move forward in time to influence the city’s latest ordinance governing crowd management and less-lethal weapons.

Seattle’s Community Police Commission was created as part of the city’s 2012 consent decree with the U.S. Justice Department, after federal officials found a pattern of unconstitutional excessive force by police.
